Poem on Parts Work from One of You
Well, it seems like some of you have been inspired to share your poetry after reading the prior submission. This is getting awkward. I’ve now been given the unintended responsibility of reading these poems and deciding which ones I publish and which I don’t. I’m sorry to those whom I don’t respond to. Sometimes, I don’t have anything to say, and sometimes I don’t have time to say it. This one was pretty easy. This one moved me and resonated with the way I see work happen. I hope it can inspire some of you in your own healing journey.
Dear Dr. Ham,
This year I started my work to finally look deeply into my inner children who were waiting hungry for love for years owing to trauma, abandonment and a life riddled with unknown fears.
In the presence of a compassionate therapist who really provided me a relational home and through many hours of writing and being aware of the inner longings, I feel I am now able to find within me a "holding environment".
Many people have helped me in this journey which really is a lifelong tending to one's neglected inner children, listening to them as you listen to children in distress.
You are one of them. Your videos have been a source of support. THANK YOU
Once in dialogue with my inner child, this is what he had to say to me:
Come at last
You are here
I have waited, you know
For years
Like a baby
Waiting for mamma
Who's gone for a shower
I have waited
And the cold winter mornings
The nights of a primal ordeal
Have grown within me
Like thorny vines of shame and fear
Which I used to crucify myself
While the world
Passed me by
Laughing
Cussing
As I stood there bleeding
My blood is what they seek
And I ain't bleeding enough
Then at last you touched me
You arrived and touched me
And I have forgotten
What it is
To be touched
But I can show you my scars
Should you want to see them
Scars that I wear as love
For the world that passed me by
Laughing
Cussing
And I felt that I wasn't bleeding enough
I will show you
Every scar
Big and small
They still bleed
Like they perhaps need to
Do they?
At last
You are here
Love and gratitude,
